Pubs, clubs, hotels, bingo halls and all commercial businesses are set to be the worst affected by the public smoking ban that comes into effect from the 1st July 2007. All enclosed public places and workplaces must become smoke free by this date.

Smokefree England has been created by the government to help guide the public ahead of this ban and they explain the reason for the ban to be: “A smokefree England will ensure a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke.”

Indoor smoking rooms in virtually all public places and work places will no longer be allowed and its the managers of premises that will have legal responsibilities to prevent people from smoking.

Failure to comply with the new law will be a criminal offence. Penalties range from £50 imposed on a person smoking up to a maximum fine of £2500 for “failing to prevent smoking in a smoke free place” imposed by a court on whoever manages or controls the premises!

If you run a business, it is unlikely that you can afford to be without the revenue that smokers provide, but it’s obviously important to comply with the new legislation. In response to this issue, Compton Buildings have developed Timber Smoke Shelters described as “The perfect addition to any beer garden” these are ideally positioned in beer gardens or near the entrance or exits of your premises.

Smoke Shelters Don’t Have to be Ugly!

These two very attractive wooden buildings come complete with benches and integral flower pots. Comfortably seating four and six people respectively, with additional standing space, the Corner Shelter and Square Shelter are available to order online at www.SmokeShelter.co.uk

Pressure treated for longer life, both the Corner Shelter and Square Shelter will be professionally delivered and installed onto a suitable site - either an existing level patio area, or a level row of paving slabs along the perimeter of the shelter will be sufficient.
